New topic or thought? New paragraph.
In most cases, a new quote means a new paragraph:
- Now that blueprints have been approved, construction is the next phase of the new school building project.
"I think we'll start in March," said crew chief Al Davis.
However, a quote may finish a thought and could be the end of the paragraph. Look closely when quoting to determine if the quote should be a new paragraph. Is this a new idea, a new statement? If you are using a quote to create a transition between an idea and the next topic, it is a new paragraph.
